Wrist orthosis with extra-long splint
Bauerfeind ManuLoc Long is a medical device orthosis for immobilizing the wrist and parts of the forearm. According to the instructions for use, it is used for irritation following an injury or surgery - for example, after casting radius fractures - before surgery, for moderate carpal tunnel syndrome, moderate tenosynovitis with pain at rest and at night, sprains and contusions, and moderate osteoarthritis.
How the orthosis works
Three anatomically shaped, extra-long aluminum splints make it virtually impossible to move the wrist. This relieves pain without restricting everyday activities: the fingers and thumb can move freely, so the hand's gripping function is only minimally affected.
According to Bauerfeind, the orthosis can be an alternative to a cast that is more comfortable in everyday life, and after cast treatment, increased stabilization with an orthosis is a suitable next step. Since it is easy to put on and take off, training can begin early.
Materials and comfort
Open gaps and air pores allow air to reach the skin. Large micro hook-and-loop fasteners allow the orthosis to be put on and taken off with one hand, and stops prevent the straps from slipping out of their loops.
Material composition according to the manufacturer: polyamide (PA), aluminum (Al), polyurethane (PUR), polyether, polyoxymethylene (POM), and polyester (PES).
Fit and size selection
ManuLoc Long is available in four sizes in the color Titan. Choose the size according to the wrist circumference. According to the size guide, measurement A along the forearm should be at least 21 cm.
- Size 0: 12–15 cm
- Size 1: 14–18 cm
- Size 2: 17–21 cm
- Size 3: 20–26 cm

Use and care
According to the instructions for use, only qualified personnel may perform the initial fitting and provide instructions on use; the aluminum rods are preformed but can be individually adjusted. Then: open the hook-and-loop fasteners on the forearm splint, place the orthosis on the hand so that the straps are positioned on the top of the forearm and on the back of the hand, and fasten the straps in order - forearm straps 1, 2, and 3, followed by the strap over the back of the hand.
If possible, remove the hook-and-loop fasteners or press them down firmly. Hand-wash the orthosis at 30 °C with mild detergent - all parts may remain attached - and let it air-dry. Do not use a tumble dryer or expose it to direct heat.
